Investigation of the Characteristic Nighttime Temperature of Potential Caves on Mars

By providing an environment where energetic particles and micrometeorites can not penetrate, caves on Mars may serve as a human shelter in future explorations. More than 1,000 cave entrance candidates have been detected; however, their physical characteristics that be utilized detecting more explored detail. In this paper, we explore the nighttime temperature of 100 surrounding areas to investigate 1) tendencies relative 2) extent these differences. We find 79% exhibit higher temperatures areas, 59% show difference over 20K, suggesting entrances generally during nighttime.
